Creating something from trash - literally!
A couple days ago I found my 12 year old daughter, Emma, rummaging through the paper recycling looking for old magazines. She's done this before, making collages that represent all the things she's into at the moment, so I thought that's what she was doing again. After awhile she showed me these dogs she created cutting shapes from different pages in the magazines:
She was just making them because she liked them, but I immediately thought they would make great note cards! They were so clever and artistic in a folk art way - I was very impressed. So we made some color copies onto white cardstock, cut and folded them into cards and voila: one-of-a-kind note cards.
I thought the concept could be carried to cats and flowers, as well. There seem to be many ways to expand on this idea. This is truly a "cottage" concept: something beautiful from things that were going to be thrown away!

Very Eric Carle. Cute and creative.
ReplyDeleteCombine Emma's talent with your creativity and viola! Something very special :)
ReplyDeleteThe given example above shows that with our creativity, we can make old items such as paper into something artistic. Others may find trash or used items useless already but we have to be practical these days and try as much as possible to help in the conservation of our natural resources.
