Silvery Fir Tree!
And, Summer Sweet "grape" tomato.
OK, it's still kinda orange. But it's ripe, I tell you, ripe!
I'm happy about getting my first ripe tomato on July 23rd (though I'm still going to try earlier next year). Last year I didn't get a ripe one until August 3rd, and it wasn't as big as this one.
The irony is I went through all these hoops (detailed here), starting the Silvery Fir Tree seeds inside last February (and my other "extra early" tomato, Sophie's Choice, which we will NOT talk about. Seems it's her choice not to ripen early). I carefully hardened them off, putting them out early with special covers and red plastic mulch.
And (here's the irony, folks, in case I lost you) I get a ripe tomato from this plant at the same time as the Summer Sweet grape tomato, which I grabbed off the shelf at a store (because I totally forgot to start some seeds of my favorite grape tomato, Jolly Elf) and stuck in the ground with no mulch and no covers.
I know, I know, it's a smaller tomato and therefore shouldn't take as long. But still....
Ugggghhhh!
