I had read somewhere that October was traditionally a month that the best sales were going on and that a lot of savings could happen. I had never experienced this, though I'm not sure if it was because I wasn't paying attention or that it wasn't true.
It was true for me this month, though.
Thinking back, I don't remember any incredible sales, though Rite Aid was smoking hot and I ended up with the biggest rebate check I've ever had - $70.88. But the grocery deals were just normal, from my perspective. In fact, I haven't even been to Albertson's for two weeks, but I did go to Fred Meyers so that's probably a wash.
So imagine my surprise when I totaled up our grocery/household budget for the month of October and it came to...
$354.82!!
Whoa...I totaled it up three times just to make sure. :-)
This is our lowest month ever, beating my original goal of $400/month by almost $50 (I've since lowered our monthly budget amount to $375 which I've stayed under for about eight months- see my side bar for "How low can I go").
It sure is a great feeling, though I've no idea how it happened (!) and we've still got a freezer full of food and a good pantry/bathroom stockpile, so we didn't inadvertently use up our extras.
Also, this is the month that I was able to cash in $20 of Swagbucks for the first time, I received my second Ebates $20+ payout that I posted about here, and accumulated that big Rite Aid rebate check I mentioned.
Seems like the money saving things I really started concentrating on last February have really started to pay off...
How're you all doing?
