It was so nice to see all the things that are blooming and growing in your gardens last week- it gives me hope because this is Western Oregon right now:
- Unseasonably cold.
- Lots of rain.
- A day of sun, then back to rain.
- Night time lows hover around 40 degrees.
Gee, just the thing for tomatoes, beans, summer squash and peppers, huh?
Arrgggh.
Oh, but don’t get me started on how the weeds don’t care about the weather. *smile*
I did plant the tomatoes anyway covering them with row cover and lining the beds with bottles filled with water to try and capture whatever warmth the feeble bit of sun we’re getting might provide. They had grown so leggy and I had been moving them around so much that I actually snapped one off before I decided I was planting no matter what the weather was doing.
I know some of you had much better success hardening off your seedlings and some in the south are already getting tomato blossoms or baby tomatoes. But for us up north, it’s the same “what can we do to hurry them along” game we play every year…
I’m looking forward to seeing all the garden progress!

I believe a cottage can be anywhere or anything (condo, ranch, farmhouse) as long as you have a "cottage mentality" which puts people above things, celebrates imperfections, embraces simplicity, and finds joy in everyday life. Thanks for joining me!

Wow, I feel like it’s been forever since I linked up to a garden party tuesday. I’m so glad springtime has finally arrived in the midwest as I spent all day Saturday out in our yard doing various things. The garden is all planted and so are my flower pots, so I got a post around and linked up to your party. Thanks for hosting and I look forward to seeing what others are planting now.
We had a really warm few days last week, but this week is all rain. I didn’t have a chance to get out to my garden last week and I’m paying for it this week. I’m waiting for a window to open up to go outside and finish planting my garden.
Thanks for the link up.
Frost again this morning in Minnesota …
I think we’ve been a bit cool, though the tomatoes are doing really well here in the Philly area. However, we have a ton of rain this week which may mean fungal diseases later on. I’m trying to stay out of the garden, despite the weeding, to avoid spreading diseases.
Sorry your weather isn’t cooperating with you. Ours isn’t either but oh well. The woes of gardening. Hopefully soon you’ll have sun and warmth. We have set record lows here this week dipping into the upper 40′s. Our normal would be 60 for the low. Hope you have a good day.
I think we are in the same weird weather pattern as you are. We actually woke to snow on Sunday morning….the day AFTER I put my tomatoes out. It was the 15th of May after all.
We are wet but I decided to put seeds out so the rain could do my watering. I will hope for the best.
Thanks for hosting the event.
If food grew as good as the puff-balls, no one would starve! Thanks for hosting, better weather is bound to come along at some point! Your weather neighborhood is right next to mine.
It has been cold..nonetheless I’m attempting to plant and garden – usually I can find a couple of hours in the morning when the rain and wind hold off – I’ve noticed in terms of wildflowers that we are about 2 weeks later this year than last – and I thought last year was a cold wet spring!
