Do you have plans for Valentine’s Day? Brian and I have never liked crowds, so the thought of going out on the actual holiday has never appealed to us. I’ve usually made a nice meal at home and when the kids came along, I’ve tried to make special or fun meals.
You know, to go along with the chocolate. *smile*
One year we did an “All Red & White Meal” and served spaghetti sauce over pasta, strawberries & raspberries, and a salad made with red lettuce. I think I “allowed” chocolate for dessert, though. I learned it’s actually kinda hard to come up with a well-rounded meal that’s only one or two colors.
This year, Brian and I went out for an early celebration last Friday. We went to a nearby small town for breakfast- our favorite meal to eat out – and visited a couple of thrift and antique stores – one of our favorite activities.
After doing a Google search, we found a cute small-town cafe that served a nice breakfast which we will visit again for sure. However, I ordered a Salmon Eggs Benedict that was recommended by the staff (plus reviews I read online). I don’t know why I keep trying- I’m always disappointed in restaurant hollandaise sauce after growing up with our homemade Easy Hollandaise Sauce. It’s got such bright and light flavors compared to the restaurants heavy, greasy- and this time actually sweet – flavors.
So that’s it- I’m really and truly not gonna order eggs benedict in a restaurant again – I’m sticking with the best hollandaise sauce I know and am going to choose a simple egg dish when we eat out.
Monday- Cheesy-Crust Ham Pie (this is the third time on the menu, and this time it’s really getting made- I’ve been craving it!), chopped vegetable salad
Tuesday- Carbonara-style Orzo, Caesar salad, chocolate lava cakes (goodness, I haven’t posted this yet??)
Wednesday- Tortellini & Bean soup (I’ll use this recipe as a base, but add mostly chicken broth instead of all milk and add white beans from the freezer), Easy Artisan Bread, veggies & ranch dip
Thursday- Soft tacos with home canned salsa
Friday- Kids cook- we’re outta here!
Saturday- Burgers (if we get home in time..)
Sunday- Creamy Pesto Pasta, sauteed green beans (frozen)

I believe a cottage can be anywhere or anything (condo, ranch, farmhouse) as long as you have a "cottage mentality" which puts people above things, celebrates imperfections, embraces simplicity, and finds joy in everyday life. Thanks for joining me!

We never go out on Valentine’s Day either – or Mother’s Day for that matter! Hate the crowds! We had lunch out yesterday instead – and will enjoy a quiet meal by candlelight at home with all 5 children Valentine’s night!
We don’t go out either – we’ll just stay at home with our pups and enjoy an evening at home. Would love for you to check out my blog at -
