My favorites today include things I’ve found lately through my RSS Reader as well as a couple of articles I’ve written for other sites that I wanted to share with you all.
One is the delicious cookie pictured – Whole Grain-Brown Sugar Oatmeal Cookies. A version of this recipe has been in my life since I was in high school, but I’ve recently tweaked it to use whole grains, less sugar (well, in the cookie!), and a special ingredient that made it way better, in my opinion.
And, yes, I sacrificed and took a bite of that cookie for the photo. It’s a tough job.
Oh, and can you read the writing on that cute little milk glass/bottle? It says, “Astoria, Oregon.” Guess where I got it? Arizona! Isn’t that a hoot? I traveled from Oregon to Arizona and found a bottle that’s from Oregon…and brought it back home.
It’s the little things, folks. {smile}
One of my goals in the next few months is to complete the finishing touches in our laundry/mud room- painting the cabinets and trim that Brian installed recently. I did manage to finish one thing in the room, though, a few weeks ago.
I finally stained and coated the wood counter top Brian made years ago. Yes, it’s just been unstained wood for years…sigh. I shared all the steps to Make Your Own Wood Countertops over at The Happy Housewife.
Finally, May is a huge birthday month in our family- eight. Time to get creative with the gifts – and the gift budget. You can read about some of my Tips To Save On Gifts Throughout The Year at About One’s In a Nutshell blog.
As far as favorites, this week I’ve pinned a Honey Breadcrumb Asparagus recipe (what’s not to love about a way to eat asparagus with your fingers?), plus a Mint-Filled Brownie Cupcake that I know my family will love.
And a reader suggested that I pin some of my best stuff here at AOC, so I’ve created a board at Pinterest called An Oregon Cottage Favorites. So far it’s only got six pins, ’cause I started it, got sick, and then kinda forgot about it (whoops).
So…I need your help! What are your AOC favorites that I should pin on the board? Sound off in the comments, please- and you’ll make my day, for sure!
Happy weekend!

I believe a cottage can be anywhere or anything (condo, ranch, farmhouse) as long as you have a "cottage mentality" which puts people above things, celebrates imperfections, embraces simplicity, and finds joy in everyday life. Thanks for joining me!

I am following you now, your blog is great, anything you share is awesome. (on pinterest and your blog)
Oh wow, where do I start… AOC’s ranch dressing (I use that alot)
the buns/breadsticks, moose munch, mayo, pretty much anything in the pantry basics. Homemade gift ideas (love the cleaning gift basket), the dining room table you refinished. Okay so I guess I am just a big fan all around, there are too many to list them all.
Thank you, Rachael! I appreciate you input (and knowing that you like what you see here!).
