Fall Decorating From The Garden

Decorating from the garden

I really enjoy the change of seasons and fall decorating is a fun way to celebrate the shift from summer.

There are some things I grow in my garden and vegetable beds specifically to decorate with in the fall:

White pumpkins.

Orange and green pumpkins. Although to be completely honest, I wouldn’t grow the orange ones at all if it weren’t for my daughter…

Small white pumpkins. I usually grow “Baby Boo” but I couldn’t find them this year and bought seeds of this green-striped mini-pumpkin sitting on the shelf. I’ve gotten as many as 50 Baby Boos in the past. This variety? Four…sigh.

Corn stalks.

Teasing! Of course I grow corn to eat, but using the stalks to decorate with is a bonus.

Hydrangeas. While I enjoy them the entire season, I LOVE the fall colors that hydrangeas turn – dark purple, burgundy, and greens.

I added a DIY Wooden Tag from my collection to the basket to coordinate with the black pot and “welcome” sign on the other side of the door. I chose the number for the month of September.

Since the hydrangeas are producing all those lovely blooms, I decided to create a fall table using them. I pulled out some scrap fabric that coordinated perfectly (awesome!) and cut out some napkins.

Ha! Can you tell I didn’t even hem them for the photo?

This was so easy to do – I combined white and pewter-like silver with brown texture added from the rustic board centerpiece, burlap runner, and basket weave chargers (.75 thrift-store finds!).

After adding the flowers in the center and at each place setting, along with napkins tied with my easy DIY Chalkboard Tags (no room for the full name? just use the first initial!), all that was left was to set the table with silverware and glasses.

OK, and make a meal. Whatever.

I’d love to see what kinds of decorations you are creating from your gardens!

Tuesday Garden Party

OK, Garden Party-ers, you’ve convinced me to keep the TGP going until mid-October!! Our last TGP for the season will now be October 16th – you’ll just have to put up with a special series I’m running in October, though I’ll try to do garden-themed projects on Tuesdays (curious? look for an announcement on October 1st…).

  1. Love your fall table with hydrangeas…I may have to do a variation!

  2. Good morning, Jami: Thank you so much for hosting the garden party today. I love your porch and fall dining room. Your hydrangeas are just the perfect color for fall–I love that deep purple shade, and I love the white pumpkins as well–so pretty!

  3. Jami, Your hydrangeas are simply gorgeous! I’m so jealous… The only pumpkins we grow are small pie pumpkins which are just beginning to turn a lovely shade of orange; your white ones are really cute and make for a nice display on your porch. :) Sharing a long-overdue garden update today. Thanks so much for hosting! ~Lisa

  6. I love your fall table!!! It is so elegant and perfect for the season. I wish I could whip up things like that but I am pretty sure that mine would not be quite that pretty.

  8. What a gorgeous fall table! We didn’t do pumpkins for decoration this year and I wish that we had. I can’t wait to see what you add throughout the season.

  9. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home. Fall in Oregon is like no other. Your hydrangeas are magnificent! I am only beginning my Fall decorating and have much to accomplish in the next few weeks.
Thank you for your fine inspiration!

  10. Susan LaCorte says:

Absolutely love your white dishes….do you know the name of the pattern and who makes them…or where I could find them. Just beautiful, and so is your table setting. So dainty and delicate! Just my style

    • Thank you Susan! I, too, love those dishes. :) They are vintage and were made up until the late 50′s or early 60′s I believe. The pattern is Rose Point and the maker is either Steubenville or Pope-Gosser (depending on the year). I got most of mine on Ebay, though a few people I know found their sets at garage sales. I hardly ever find pieces at antique stores where I live and never in thrift stores. :(

Thank you so much for such a quick reply. I will definitely keep an eye out for them. Maybe I’ll hit it lucky and find some. Everyone needs to collect something…might as well be something pretty!

    Thanks again,
    Susan

  12. Hi Jami,
The beautiful decoration I love it We here in Ontari are having freezing rain. I want to start my seeds but it looks that the season will come to end without vegetables in Kitchener, Canada.
Keep up the good design you show us and we are very happy with your ideas.
    Have fun ok
